Early detection of neurodegenerative diseases with stapp one
Gait assessments can identify certain neurodegenerative diseases. This is particularly useful for elderly people with geriatric disorders. The intelligent sensor soles from stapp one are the technological innovation that supports assessments with objective data collection.
The Bruneck study states that two-thirds of the patients over 60 who suffer from gait disorders have neurological causes. Gait analysis can detect neurological diseases and the increased risk of falls earlier and therefore therapeutic needs can be defined more quickly.
A high gait variability is one of the most reliable signs to predict falls. Even the smallest variations in stride length, foot pressure and other parameters can double the risk of falling and indicate a neurological disease. This is why “a gait analysis […] with the naked eye is often insufficient”. With the intelligent sensor soles from stapp one, gait variability can be determined very easily and quickly. The sensor soles measure the patient’s foot pressure and other time-based parameters while the corresponding medical software visualizes the data and allows an easy interpretation. This innovative technology is an effective way of detecting neurological diseases and the associated increased risk of falling in a very early state.
There were already various ideas how assessments combined with technology and technical equipment could provide more effective data. However, the authors of a technical paper by the University of Texas at Dallas and the Georgia Institute of Technology (2017), explicitly advocate the use of sensor soles. “This type of instrumentation is more feasible and it provides reliable information.“
As indicated above, stapp one can be used to quantify movements that for the naked eye are difficult or even impossible to detect. So gait irregularities are identified at an early stage and necessary measures to improve the gait pattern and maintain mobility can be taken in time.
Early intervention is often decisive for specific therapy. With stapp one, assessments can be saved and repeated at regular intervals, allowing an objective presentation of the course of therapy.
